Question: I was at HD last night, and they have on sale a 5 stage Honeywell RO unit. There's two front end charcoal filters, a TFC membrane and a final charcoal filter. They claim it removes 'most' nitrates, phosphates, copper, lead, etc... so I 'assume' this unit should not leak phosphates into the system from the charcoal. $99.00. It's rated at 16 gallons a day, and has a 2 gallon holding tank. Anybody see this and know if it's decent enough for a reef tank?
Answer: My wife and I went to Home Depot this weekend to pick up some potting soil and such and I took the opportunity to try to find their RO equipment. What a mess. Forget getting any kind of help on a weekend. I looked and looked and did not even see any replacement RO membranes. I saw a couple of two stage units, primarily Culligan equipment. The Honeywell system may have been there, but since I was not serious about buying one, I was not going to climb 20 feet in the air or get someone else to look for it. They did have sediment filters and carbon blocks with 10,20, and 30 micron filtration with good prices. Their catalog does not list any of the equipment above except for an in-line polishing filter. This store is in on 610 west in Houston. Maybe I will try a different one today.
