Question: anyone have any ideas for something I should use at work? At home I either have an espresso, a French press, or a vac pot....at work the only thing I have is a auto drip....I was thinking about taking one of those small electric tea kettles and boil some water with that and buy myself a small chemex for use at work....
Answer: Many companies frown on, or just flat prohibit, personal heating devices at your desk/cube/etc. If this is the case where you work, look for a hot water spout on the bottled water cooler. If all else fails, use the lunch room microwave. I've yet to see anyplace without a microwave ...workers would riot. Bring a Pyrex 1 or 2 cup measuring cup and nuke water to a boil. One cup of cold water will boil in 2 min, 20 secs in a 700 watt microwave. YMMV. That's something that goes on the stove top to boil water....a "microwave" is just that...a microwave....cooks with radiation....cant believe you Brits dont have those? As far as the "water cooler", it's a device that holds usually a 5 gallon bottle of water because depending on where you live in the States, the water is pretty bad....I live in the panhandle of Florida and trust me, the water coming out of the tap is pretty nasty....everything is either filtered at the tap or with a pitcher filter....
