Question: I'm not anti-FSF, since I use Linux, and love having great tools at my disposal. However, I'm not a fool. I wouldn't give my work away. I'd be more then willing to share algorithms, but not the whole package. I wonder what Mr. Stallman's opinion is of bottled water distributors, produce vendors, and butchers.
Answer: I can't speak for Mr. Stallman, but I imagine it would be something along the lines of "People would be outraged, and rightfully so, if produce vendors stopped selling produce and instead claimed they were only selling licenses to use the produce, and only under the terms dictacted by the vendors. Using the produce in any other manner voids the contract and requires the cook to return the produce. Using the seeds to grow your own produce, especially improved hybrids of your own creation, is especially outlawedCompletely irrelevant. No-one is prohibited from reselling or modifying water, meat, or other physical produce.
