Bottled Water Quality

Question:
I know there is a lot of opinion on water quality as RV'ers travel around the United States. Some individuals seem to think that all water provided is tested and meets some quality standard. Others seem to think that only large municipal water systems have quality/tested water. Others only drink bottled water.

Is there a Federal water safety/quality standard?

Answer: I always run the water for a few seconds and then check if for clarity in a cup. If I don't see any bad color or cloudiness or any critters, I will hook up to the campground water. I have found some water at campgrounds to messy to hook up to and do not want clog up my filter. I use a whole house carbon filter on the water hookup. I have seen iron bacteria in several campgrounds and that is a real mess to a filter and your water system.

For us "in the country" I've got a 150' pipe in the ground, a pump and water tank. Used to be 100' until they started building more homes nearby. No filters. Water looks clear as a bell, tastes good, and no one ever's gotten sick from it to my knowledge. Might have it tested one of these days.
