Question: She also finds that insecticides and fungicides on fruits and vegetables are not problems as long as they are washed with water before consumption (except for potatoes whose sprout inhibitors are harmful, but less so than the sprouts that would form otherwise, so peel them and don't eat the skinsany ideas?
Answer: Isopropyl alcohol is also used in cleaning equipment. Clark states that this is a most insidious poison. She says to avoid any form of propyl alcohol, propanol, and to be safe, any product with "prop" on the label. These (mostly) petroleum by-products are sometimes included intentionally in food and are listed on the label, as in Baker's Coconut (propylene glycol). But, propyl alcohol is easy to avoid if it is listed on the label. When it is used to clean equipment and pollutes the food being processed, it is not listed on the label, of course. Clark finds the worst propyl alcohol polluted food products to be cold cereals, ice cream, fruit juice, soft drinks, decaf coffee, white sugar, and bottled water. It is also found in most health care products. Benzene is even worse than isopropyl alcohol, according to Clark. It is primarily used to extract natural flavors and oils and is contained in flavored foods, cooking oils, bottled water and fruit juices, ice cream and frozen yogurt, and chewing gum. It is also found in many health care products.
