Question:
I noticed that coffee made with water filtered through a cheap BRITA water jug tastes much better than coffee made from tap water. I am thinking of buying a better water filter...what are the best ones, in a price range of $100 or so?

Answer: I'd have to agree with you on using filtered water. I am currently using a commercial grade water filter that I purchased from Grainger for about 60 dollars. There are different filters that are available which filter different micron sizes and elements. There are also descaling filters which might make your machine last a little longer. I think the filters last about a year and the replacement filters cost anywhere from six - twenty dollars. It is probably the best improvement you can make to your water supply

I use a Pur brand on-tap water filter. For the job it does (which is all backed up by gov't data) it comes in at a very affordable $40, and can be located at any Target, as well as various other stores.
