Doulton Water Filter

Question:
Can anyone recommend a good water filter system?

I want something that will remove minerals, bacteria, odor and bad taste

Answer: On that note, I've heard of a ceramic water filter that also has some kind of carbon filter built into it that removes all of the above. I believe it is called a Doulton water filter and runs about $200. Anyone have comments on that as opposed to other types of filters?

I believe that this statement is incorrect. First of all, the ordinary one-step distillation cannot remove liquid contaminants that have a significant vapour pressure at the boiling point of water. Those contaminants come up in the steam and are re-condensed along with the supposedly pure water. Distillation does remove minerals very well, and most bacteria are destroyed.

Second, you ought to see the specs on water that has gone through the reverse-osmosis process. It is actually better than ordinary distillation. From the specifications given in the advertising, which one might indeed be tempted to believe - otherwise there would result some kind of false-advertising or fraud prosecution, the reverse-osmosis process is clearly superior to ordinary distillation.
