Question: Can I use a diesel fuel filter/water separator on a gas engine? This isn't as stupid an idea as it sounds. Well, actually, maybe it is. Will the diesel filter flow enough fuel for a 150-200 hp gasoline engine? Or is it too restrictive for that application? A friend has a fuel cell problem in his race car. There's water in the fuel cell. Don't ask how it got there. I promised I wouldn't tell anybody.
Answer: Don't know for sure if it would work or not. How much water are we talkin' about? Seems to me the *right* way to fix it would be to drain the tank if there's a lot of water, or maybe add some alcohol (or fuel drier) if it's just a smidge. All gas powered boats use a similar filter. They are available at any marine supply store. For example West Marine catalog has them for ~$30.00 for the head and one element. Replacement elements are ~$8.00. I'm not sure if it's the same as a diesel element but it will flow up to 70 gallons/hour. We have this problem in some military trucks, and we use denatured alcohol to fix it, that stuff is wonderful. Use about one quart per every 15 gallons, and run it hard about 2 hours after you use it... should solve all problems
