Question: Any Ideas for Water Filtration ?
Answer: Just thought I would pass this along cuz it's pretty cheap and convenient. At Home Depot you can buy a GE water filter cartridge that is meant to be used with the automatic water/ice maker on refridgerators for $10. The filter is in a 2 inch diameter (or something on that order) housing with fittings on both ends. I just slid some vinyl hose over the intake and connected the other end to barb fitting on my faucet. Instant filtered water wand for $10. It's really nice. Just set the kettle on the burner, point and squirt. It's rated for 2000 gallons I've been using a filter system that was originally intended to be an inline whole-house filter and it has become a real PITA to use because I don't use it very often and need to keep the filter dry or I will have huge bacteria buildup in the filter. I've wanted to scrap this setup but hadn't come across anything cheap, easy and effective. I basically disassemble the filter and leave the carbon core out to dry. This is the part that is PITA because it requires a huge wrench and the seal requires that I teflon tape it every single time I reassemble for a brewing session. It also creates a big splash/mess when I disassemble. I'm looking to move to something a lot simpler in the future
