House Water Purification Systems

Question:
I need some information on water purification systems. I had a couple of guys from Hague Quality Water at my house yesterday, giving me a really hard sell on their $4500 whole-house system. They ran tests on my tap water, my Brita pitcher water, my bottle of Zephyrhills water, etc. and showed me how bad everything was, and how it is hurting my/my wife/ my kid's health, and how we'd better buy this thing right away.

Anyone have any complaints about this company or their product? Is a whole-house system overkill? They claim that even showering in the tap water is dangerous.

Answer: Get your water tested by an independent lab that does not sell water systems. Then get bids from three people. There are many way to tackle water problems, and they have a lot of variance in their prices.

What kind of water treatment do you need? Removing hardness, filtering, killing bacteria? I installed a water conditioner in one place for $500, worked fine for hardness. That was a while ago, could be worth $1000 now I suppose. My current house well gave my cloudy water and I installed a double whole house filter. total cost about $40.

What are those people offering for $4500?

Don't know about the specifics of your situation, but...

The "add-on" water filters can really get disgusting with slime mold and gunk. (Check out those office water coolers, too. Before cleaning the container out, slide your fingers around the inside surface feels as slick as ??That's slime mold. Depending, some people taste it before others. Bleach kills almost all, so flush with that. )

The skin DOES absorb contaminations directly through it (else the "patch" wouldn't work and we all know how small an area those things take up)

Regarding bottled water..the company will supply a complete testing report upon request (at least they do here in California) and the public utilities commission (or whatever regulatory agency is in charge) usually has their independent reports, too.

As far as the hard sell...check with your local Better Business to see if there are a long list of complaints or if they have satisfied customers. Cost? To me the $4500 price tag sounds a bit high. Shouldn't it be $3K to $3.5K? with 1 year guarantee, etc. But that may just be me, and out of date.
