Question: I have been using a Hydrotech reverse osmosis device for 3 years now and my Sumatran tastes WONDERFUL! Hydrotech now has a countertop unit that might take care of your problem. I have NO connection with the company other than being a satisfied customer.
Answer: BE CAREFUL! There's only about an once of charcoal in this type of filter. Truth is, after 6 days, they are beat and may do more harm than good. Invest in a charcoal filter for under the sink. Spend the money. I've been in the water filter biz for 7 yrs, and know of what I speak! How, exactly, can a filter "do more harm than good"? Are you implying that a Brita filter is going to *release something toxic* into the water that wasn't there before? I've been quite impressed with my Brita. I was using Glacier Pure before that. Interestingly, Consumer Reports recently rated filter systems and were very complementary of the Brita but rated Glacier Pure as not acceptable, mainly because it failed to remove much lead. We have red water (rusty pipes) and would like to prevent further rust forming on the pipes. We are told that the phosphate will aid in preventing the further deterioration of our pipes. This is our main motivation to getting this new system as our neighbors just replaced all the pipes in their house because of rust. The reverse osmosis is to replace the Arrowhead drinking water that we get monthly. The 4060 D/D is to replace a salt water rental unit with a potassium chloride unit (again, far better for the pipes).
