Question: I am going to install a line to the refrigerator for an ice maker and was wanting to know is there any inline water filters available? If so which ones are good. Or should I just put a filter in before water gets to the house? Any suggestions.
Answer: If you have a basement, consider placing the filter there, with the line just run up through the floor to the refrigerator. The benefit is not having to move the refrigerator when changing the filter. I installed a two cartridge model under the kitchen sink and use it for both the refrigerator and a special faucet on the sink for drinking/cooking use. It is easily serviced, but since not a lot of water flows through it, the cartridges last a long time between changes. Your local Home Depot or equivalent will have several models with lots of handout information available on their uses.
