Question: I'm looking for a better home filter and or, purifier, the ones you put under your sink or on the counter. These look like all camping filters. I'm using a multi pure now, if I recall correctly its 0.5 microns. Does Katadyn make a home filter? If not, could you recommend something, someone?
Answer: some water filters have the water outlet screw directly into a "standard" size water bottle (usually one of those wide mouth Nalgene bottles). I like this idea as the clean water goes directly into a clean bottle with no source for contamination. With something like you have the hose can get contaminated. The outside may not be clean and may touch the water etc. Same issues as the push water faucet idea you had a year ago. I'm not saying what you have is no good, you just have to be more careful to preserve the sanitation level. It can be hard to keep the hose sanitary. (I use alcohol wipes to keep mine clean with an occasional bleach wipe) I personally use the special Katadyn filter housing that Wayne Roby built me for gathering use for home use as well. I taped my cold water pipe and fed it into the Katadyn. The output goes to a spigot in my sink where the sprayer used to be. I had to get Wayne to build me a special version of his filter housing that could take the 60-80lbs of home water pressure. At gatherings we usually don't get more than 40lbs.
