Question: I live in so. Calif. I met a man who works for the Water dept in our County for 30 years, an engineer. I asked him if it really is advisable to drink bottled water rather than tap. He said there's nothing wrong with drinking tap, it's safe, he drinks it himself. In any event, I've been wondering what exactly is "drinking" water that is sold. I just purchased a case of Kirkland drinking water from Costco. Is it anything more than tap or has it been processed in some way?
Answer: Look on the fine print on the label. It should say where it came from. Some of the bottled water available in groceries around here (Indianapolis) says that it's Greenville NC tap water. Wonder what's on the shelves in Greenville NC... 'Candeh' posted a good reference. There's usually nothing special about bottled water, at least in terms of 'safe drinking.' Municipal water systems regularly test and certify what's sent to your tap -- (very infrequent) lapses are quickly noticed. Even tap water that looks or tastes odd is generally "safe" to drink. Some people buy bottled water because they don't like the taste of their own tapwater. Except for distilled, water from the tap, in bottles, or from springs or wells is 'flavored' by various disolved minerals. Drinking bottled water should be a matter of taste. As the original thread revealed, tastes vary.
