Question: In between the studs in our basement wall (beneath the kitchen) there isan NSA water filter contraption. I'm sure it needs a new filter, butwhere do I get one? What might it cost? Is NSA a brand? Are therealternate suppliers for replacement filters? Is NSA some sort ofcontrolling agency/council? It's about half the size of a loaf of French bread. I suspect itpurifies the water destined for the refrigerator's icemaker.
Answer: I've been very happy with my NSA filter. NSA is a brand, whichused to be sold through people (I bought mine from a friend). Inoticed they're now available in a local appliance store. They area little expensive, but they last a long time. NSA stands for National Safety Associates (sounds like some kind offederal agency, doesn't it?), and they're based in Memphis, TN.Sorry, I don't have a phone number for them. I've seen small in-line units for the refrigerator's icemaker,as well as counter-top units (which I have), and under-the-counterunits. I have neighbours that used to sell NSA filters. I am led to believethat they basically filter chlorine from the water. Although saleschat would have you believe that they do more, lab tests have not beendone to prove it. In my opinion, you would have greater success in thesales & marketing department if you could boast proof of what you sayfrom lab tests - so why are they not done? This was several years ago, things may have changed, of course correctme if I'm wrong!
