Sulpher(?) smell in water.

Question:
We get our water from a well, the well depth is about 350 feet,we had the water tested and it is very soft water, and the flowrate is about 6gpm...everything is great except for a sulphersmell in the water. We have a reverse osmosis drinking waterfilter from another house that we haven't installed...although Ibeleive this will work for the kitchen sink to provide drinkingwater, I would like to filter all the water coming into thehouse. I have looked at some of the whole house filtration kits, but none really say they get rid of a sulpher smell...is thereanything I can do, without spending the kids inheritance (yeahlike there is any).

Answer: You need someone to test the water and propose types of treatment, it maynot be 'sulpher'. You are not supposed to use carbon filters or an RO onwater of unknown microbiological quality. I presume you mean disposablecartridge type "whole house" filters. They will not help you much unless itreally is 'sulfer' and you're willing to replace the cartridge frequently. You might need what is called point of entry equipment from a watertreatment dealer. Bacteria problems can cause an odor that smells very muchlike 'sulpher' but it is not treated the same. Bacteria breed in carbonfilters which are part of an RO.
