Question: Is the sort of bottled water you get at supermarkets ok to top up amodern battery, or is it essential you use the stuff from a car shop?
Answer: Alternately, take a trip to Aberdeen. The tap water there is suitablealso. But your nearest garage will sell the correct thing. If the cost ofwater for your battery is causing you sleepless nights, I suggest you getyour alternator checked. I think I know the answer, but want some other thoughts before Iresign myself to the big bill.... On checking my Coolant Header Tank I noticed it was low, so I mixed upsome coolant (with anti-freeze) and added it. Next day, after having covered approx 140 miles, I checked the tankand it was empty.....GULP!!!. Added again, same thing next day, afterapprox 80 miles covered..........GULP, GULP..... When running the temp stays at a reasonable level, though it doesfluctuate between 194-204 F depending upon being in traffic etc. There are no leaks under the car in the morning, and ......thereappears to be no mixing of oil/water in the top of the engine.
